Japan-Netherlands Foreign Ministers Meeting

On February 15, commencing at 2:35 p.m. (10:35 p.m. JST) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Caspar Veldkamp, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, during his visit to Germany for attending the Munich Security Conference. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Foreign Minister Iwaya expressed his pleasure at holding the first meeting since the inauguration of the new Dutch government in July last year. Minister Iwaya also stated that he looked forward to further deepening Japan-Netherlands relations, in light of this year's 425th anniversary of JapanNetherlands exchanges, the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and the Netherlands' hosting of the NATO Summit. In response, Foreign Minister Veldkamp expressed his wish to further develop Japan-Netherlands relations in various fields.
- Minister Iwaya highly values the Netherlands' continued concrete engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, including the deployment of the Dutch frigate Tromp to Japan last June. The two Ministers concurred to deepen defense cooperation to ensure the security of the Indo-Pacific region.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international situations and confirmed that they will work together on various global issues.
