On February 9, commencing at 6:00 p.m., Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Arturs Krišjanis KARINŠ, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, who is visiting Japan as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The overview is as follows.

  1. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi welcomed Minister Karinš' first visit to Japan, and also expressed his gratitude for words of sympathy regarding the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. In response, Minister Karinš expressed his pleasure at his first visit to Japan as well as his intention to further deepen the good bilateral relations in broad areas, including the economic relations and the security field.
  2. The two sides discussed regional issues and collaboration to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and they concurred that Japan and Latvia would work closely together.
