On January 26, commencing at 3:05 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Xavier BETTEL, Vice Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi welcomed Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bettel’s visit to Japan and expressed his gratitude for Minister Bettel’s warm message of sympathy regarding the damages caused by the recent Noto Peninsula earthquake. He also expressed his welcome to the Minister's attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Luxembourg’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
  2. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi also mentioned that he has been working to strengthen bilateral relations by introducing his responsibility as the President of the Japan-Luxembourg Parliamentary Friendship League.
  3. In response, Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bettel stated that he had visited Japan many times and that he would continue to make efforts to further strengthen Luxembourg-Japan relations. In particular, he expressed his expectations for deepening economic relations between the two countries, through Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai and other opportunities.
  4. Both sides concurred on advancing their cooperation on various issues in the international arena, such as the situation in East Asia, including in responding to North Korea on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, the Middle East, and Ukraine.
