Japan-Luxembourg Relations
Meeting Between Prime Minister Abe and His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg


On October 25, commencing at around 9:50 a.m., Prime Minister Abe met with His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg who was visiting Japan for around 25 minutes. The summary of the meeting is as follows. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Akihiro Nishimura and others on the Japanese side and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn and others on the Luxembourgish side.
1. Opening Remarks
Prime Minister Abe stated that “the long relationship between the Imperial Household and the Grand Duke’s Household has been an indispensable and important bond in the development of bilateral relations of friendship and goodwill,” and expressed his appreciation for His Highness Grand Duke Henri’s 13th visit to Japan. His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri responded that it was an honor to be able to attend the Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor, and that it demonstrated the closeness of the Imperial Household and the Grand Duke’s Household. His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri also expressed his condolences for the damages of Typhoon Hagibis.
2. Bilateral Relations
Prime Minister Abe expressed his desire to develop the bilateral relationship in any fields, such as political, economic, and cultural fields and people-to-people exchanges by utilizing various opportunities. In response, H.R.H. Grand Duke Henri said that the Japan-Luxembourg relations are at a magnificent level, noting that he especially welcomes the increase in investment by Japanese companies in Luxembourg, and expressed his hope to further develop the bilateral relations.
Further, both the Prime Minister and H.R.H. Grand Duke Henri confirmed their intention to work closely to ensure the success of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
