Japan-United Kingdom Relations

On January 8 from 9:15 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held the Fifth Japan-UK Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue with the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the UK, following the Second Japan-UK Foreign and Defence Ministers' Meeting. The overview of the dialogue is as follows.

1 G7
The two ministers confirmed that they would cooperate closely for a successful G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held in Hiroshima in April.

2 Bilateral economic relations
Secretary Hammond highly praised the investment in the UK by Japanese companies and remarked that these companies' management methods are giving a positive effect to U.K. companies.

3 Relations with the EU
Secretary Hammond explained the situation of the discussions on the EU reforms within the EU. Both ministers confirmed that they would cooperate closely toward reaching an agreement in principle for the Japan-EU EPA as early as possible during this year.

(note)The Third Japan-UK Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue was held in London on January 21, 2015, and the Fourth was held in Tokyo on August 8, 2015.
