On May 3rd local time, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting France, had a meeting with Dr. Moïsi, Special Advisor to the Institut Montaigne and visited with Mrs. IWAYA Tomoko, the Maison du Japon of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris and the Guimet Museum. The overview is as follows.

  1. Minister Iwaya exchanged views with Dr. Moïsi, Special Advisor to the Institut Montaigne at 2:50 p.m. for approximately 1 hour on the situation in Ukraine, European security, and the impact of the US tariff measures on the global economy and the multilateral free trade system among others.
  2. Minister Iwaya also visited the Maison du Japon of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, with Mrs. Iwaya from 10:40 a.m. for approximately 25 minutes for the first time as Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs. Minister Iwaya received explanation from the staff on the significance of the Maison du Japon, as a centre for international students’ exchanges and Japanese culture, as well as the prospects for future activities. Afterwards, commencing at 11:20 a.m. in local time for approximately 35 minutes, Minister Iwaya visited the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris with Mrs. Iwaya and exchanged views with the President of the Institute on the achievements of culture programs through the Institute’s public private partnership, the extent to which Japanese culture has penetrated France, the role which cultural exchanges play in strengthening Japan-France relations, and prospects for future programs in preparation for the 30th anniversary of the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris in 2027.
  3. Minister Iwaya, commencing at 4 p.m. in local time for approximately 50 minutes, visited the Guimet Musuem with Mrs. Iwaya and exchanged views with the Director of the museum. At the Guimet Museum, Minister Iwaya expressed his respects to the museum’s long-standing role in promoting Japanese art in France and expressed strong expectations for the manga exhibition which is planned to be held in November this year and exchanged views on further promoting Japanese culture.
  4. 2028 marks the 170th anniversary of Japan-France friendship. It is expected that Japan-France partnership through culture will be further strengthened, as cultural exchanges between the two countries, including cultural anniversary programs will be stimulated and Japan-France friendly relations continue to develop further.
