Japan-France Relations

On November 30, commencing at 0:20 p.m. (local time; 0:20 a.m. on December 1, Japan time) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, who was visiting the Argentine Republic to attend the G20 Buenos Aires Summit, held a short meeting with H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and discussed the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. Prime Minister Abe stated that he recognized the importance of maintaining stable relations of the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance, which is a symbol of Japan-France industrial cooperation, and that the future of the Alliance should be decided on by the stakeholders in the private sector and is not committable by governments. He also expressed his hope that the stakeholders would advance constructive discussions in the manner satisfactory for the parties.

2. The two leaders shared the recognition on the importance of maintaining the stability of the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance.
