On June 28, commencing at 7:48 p.m. (local time; 2:48 a.m., June 29, Japan time) for approximately two hours, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, attended a banquet hosted by His Majesty King Felipe VI of the Kingdom of Spain together with approximately 60 heads of state and partners, while visiting Spain to attend the NATO Summit. The overview of the banquet is as follows.

  1. Prime Minister Kishida, who was received by Their Majesties King Felipe VI and the Queen Letizia, appreciated the invitation to the banquet and expressed his respect for the efforts made by Spain as the host of the NATO Summit.
  2. During the banquet, His Majesty King Felipe VI delivered a speech welcoming the attendance of the heads of states.
  3. Prime Minister Kishida deepened his friendship with many of the heads of state and partners who attended the NATO Summit.
  4. Prime Minister Kishida briefly exchanged greetings with President Zuzana Čaputová of Slovakia. President Čaputová stated that Slovakia is a direct neighbor of Ukraine and is under direct threat, adding that she appreciates Japan's support for Ukraine under such circumstances. In response, Prime Minister Kishida stated that the security of Europe and that of the Indo-Pacific are inseparable from each other and expressed Japan’s intention to continue to provide support for Ukraine.
  5. Prime Minister Kishida also briefly exchanged greetings with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia. Prime Minister Albanese stated that the recent Quad Leaders’ Meeting produced a significant outcome. In response, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his desire to continue cooperation among the four countries.
  6. Prime Minister Kishida had a quite brief exchange of simple greetings with President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea (ROK). Prime Minister Kishida expressed his expectation that President Yoon Suk Yeol will make efforts to restore sound Japan-ROK relations, which are currently in an extremely difficult situation.
