1. The 150th Anniversary Year

2018 is the year that marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain in 1868. Over the years, the two countries have deepened their friendship and built a cooperative relationship in many fields including political, economic, academic and cultural ones. The anniversary events to celebrate the 150th anniversary will be splendid opportunities to further strengthen and develop the very good relationship that already exists between Japan and Spain. The Governments of Japan and Spain are determined not to spare efforts so that such opportunities contribute to further deepen the ties between the two countries.

2. The official logo

In order to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain, the official logo shown above has been designed. The logo will be used for events related to the commemoration of the 150th anniversary.

The official logo is designed combing the Mt. Fuji, representing Japan, the sea separating the two countries and a bridge connecting the two countries.

3. The Promotion Committee

As of January 1st 2018, the “Promotion Committee for the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain” will be established as advisory organization for this anniversary. The Committee consists of the members closely related to the bilateral relations in such fields as economic and academic ones. The members are as follows:

Senior Corporate Advisor of Mitsubishi Corporation, Chairman of the Japan-Spain Business Cooperation Committee

Vice Chairman

Mr. Shinichi Yokoyama,
Former Chairman, Honorary Advisor to the Board of Sumitomo Life Insurance Company, Chairman of the Japanese side of the Japan-Spain Symposium

Vice President, Culture & Sports Projects of the Yomiuri Shimbun

4. The Secretariat

At the same time, for the smooth implementation of the anniversary events, the “Secretariat for the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain” will be established in the European Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, headed by Mr. Yasushi Masaki, Assistant Minister and Director General for the Bureau, which will be in charge of the coordination with those concerned.
