On April 25, commencing at 5:10 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Lars Løkke RASMUSSEN, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark. An overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi expressed his pleasure to meet Foreign Minister Rasmussen again. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi stated that Denmark is a strategic partner of Japan that shares values and principles, and that he expressed his hope that His Majesty King Frederik's visit to Japan as a guest of honor to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan will further develop bilateral relations between Japan and Denmark. In response, Minister Rasmussen stated that he hopes the two countries will work together even more closely.
  2. Both sides confirmed their commitment to further deepen cooperation in a wide range of areas including clean energy, quantum science and technology. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi also asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained full support from Minister Rasmussen.
  3. In addition, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi also reiterated that the decision by the Danish government not to extradite Paul Watson to Japan is extremely regrettable.
