On May 2, Friday, from around 9:15 a.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, who was visiting Denmark, held a meeting with Mr. Morgens Jensen, Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation of Denmark. An overview of the meeting is as follows:
  1. Bilateral Relations
    Foreign Minister Kishida and Minister Jensen agreed to cooperate for activation of trade and investment of the two countries with focus on the fields of renewable energy, maritime traffic and life science including medicines based on the “Strategic Partnership for Growth and Innovation” that Mrs. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Prime Minister of Denmark, and Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan, had agreed upon last March.
  2. Japan-EU EPA
    Foreign Minister Kishida stated that Japan would aim at reaching an agreement on the Japan-EU economic partnership agreement (EPA) in principle by the end of year 2015. In response to this, Minister Jensen expressed his strong support for the early conclusion of Japan-EU EPA.
  3. Development/Africa
    In the field of development, the two ministers agreed to advance further cooperation on the utilization of “the power of women” with Denmark, who is a pioneer in assistance to women. Moreover, Minister Kishida explained the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Conference to be held on May 4 and 5 in Cameroon and Minister Jensen expressed his support for the TICAD process. In addition, the two ministers confirmed that they have a lot of common concerns such as support to fragile states and gender equality, and shared their views on cooperation in supporting Africa.
