Summary

On October 22 and 23, the Ukraine Mine Action Conference 2025 (UMAC2025) was held in Tokyo, Japan. The Ukraine Mine Action Conference is an international forum to support mine action in Ukraine. Following the first conference hosted by Croatia in 2023 and the second by Switzerland in 2024, respectively, Japan hosted the third conference this year.

The conference brought together approximately 600 participants, including representatives from 75 countries and international organizations, as well as business leaders, NGOs, and mine action operators from Ukraine and beyond. Under the overarching theme “Acceleration toward Reconstruction,” participants engaged in discussions focusing on three key areas: (1) People, (2) Technology, and (3) Nexus - a seamless transition from mine action to recovery and reconstruction. In addition, the outcome document was announced at the closing session on the first day.

During the conference, Japanese and Ukrainian companies and organizations also held side events and exhibitions. These events and exhibitions showcased advanced mine clearance technologies which are essential for recovery and reconstruction, as well as agricultural and other technologies related to the nexus concept.
