Prime Minister TAKAICHI’s participation in the Leaders Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine

On August 24, commencing at 8:00 p.m., Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, participated in the “Leaders Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine” and made the following remarks:
- At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI offered her heartfelt congratulations on the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence and reiterated respect for the courage of the Ukrainian people, led by President Zelenskyy who are facing Russia’s aggression on a daily basis.
- The principle that unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force must not be tolerated remain unchanged. As demonstrated by Russia-North Korea military cooperation regarding Ukraine and the strengthening of ties between China and Russia, security in Europe and the Atlantic region is inseparable from that in the Indo-Pacific. Noting the increasingly severe security environment surrounding Japan, it is more important to advance cooperation with our ally and like-minded countries.
- It is essential that the international community work together in solidarity in supporting Ukraine to achieve a just and lasting peace as soon as possible. Japan has contributed to efforts to strengthen Ukraine's economic and social resilience including through public-private partnership assistance for recovery and reconstruction.
- Japan will continue to work to support Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia in coordination with the international community. Japan will never waver in its consistent position of standing with Ukraine.
