On September 9, commencing at 10:50 a.m. for approximately 45 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Peter Pellegrini, President of the Slovak Republic, who is visiting Japan as an official Guest of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA sincerely welcomed President Pellegrini’s first visit to Japan on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan and expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperation with Slovakia, a member state of EU and NATO, as the international security environment is becoming more severe.
  2. In response, President Pellegrini stated that he would like to continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries, which have continued for more than 100 years.
  3. The two leaders concurred on continuing dialogue to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including the economic relationship.
  4. The two leaders also confirmed that Japan and Slovakia will cooperate on various issues of the international community, including the situation in Ukraine, maintenance and strengthening multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, and their policies towards North Korea including the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue.
