Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Endo's Attendance at the "Europe-Indo-Pacific Partners" (EIPP) Meeting

On September 22 local time, Mr. ENDO Kazuya, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, who was visiting New York, the United States of America, attended the "Europe-Indo-Pacific Partners" (EIPP) Meeting for approximately 75 minutes beginning at noon (1:00 a.m. on September 23 Japan Standard Time), and exchanged views on common challenges facing both the European and Indo-Pacific regions, among other topics. (The meeting was attended by eight countries: four European countries —France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom — and four Indo-Pacific countries — Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea.)
- Senior Deputy Minister Endo stated that, at a time when the international order faces serious challenges, like-minded countries in Europe and the Indo-Pacific are building multi-layered and close cooperation through various frameworks, including the EIPP, and that the expanding web of such cross-regional cooperation itself demonstrates that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions is inseparable. German Foreign Minister Wadephul, who hosted the meeting, and other participants expressed their expectations that each country would advance its effective initiatives from its respective standpoint in areas where they can strengthen cooperation, such as the protection of critical undersea infrastructure, countering "shadow fleets," strategic communications, and the maintenance of multilateralism.
- The participants from all eight countries concurred on working together toward strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and issued a Joint Press Statement affirming that the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable and that like-minded countries will cooperate in addressing common challenges.
