On September 1, commencing at 1 p.m. local time (8 p.m., JST) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting the Republic of Slovakia to attend the “V4 Plus Japan” Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Petr Macinka, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

  1. At the outset, Minister MOTEGI stated that he was pleased to have exchanged the signed documents of the “Action Plan for Implementation of the Strategic Partnership Cooperation between Japan and the Czech Republic for the Years 2026 – 2030” and that he would like to further deepen cooperation to realize the vision of Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) with the Czech Republic, a Strategic Partner. In response, Minister Macinka expressed his gratitude for his first meeting with Minister MOTEGI and expressed his hope to further develop cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of fields under the Action Plan.

Minister MOTEGI stated that he would like to further deepen bilateral economic relations, while noting that the Japanese business community has contributed to the Czech economy over many years, with approximately 270 Japanese firms, mainly manufacturers, generating about 50,000 jobs. The two ministers concurred on continuing to deepen cooperation in the areas of economy and economic security, as well as advanced technologies including space exploration and utilization, and quantum technologies.
  3. The two ministers concurred on further cooperating in the international fora.

A framework for regional cooperation comprising of the Slovak Republic (current Presidency holder), the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. It was founded in 1991 in Visegrád, Hungary. In addition to dialogues among leaders, foreign ministers and senior officials, cooperation under the “V4 Plus Japan” framework has been promoted in a wide range of fields, including science and technology, third country assistance, disaster prevention, and environmental issues.
