Japan-Norway Relations

  1. On August 28, following the demise of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae sent a message of condolence to H.E. Mr. Jonas Gahr STØRE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway.

    In her message, Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed her deep sorrow upon hearning of the King's passing and her condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Japan. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also expressed her sincere respect for King Harald V's achievements, noting that since his ascension to the throne in January 1991, he had always been close to his people, led the country with his warm personality, and made significant contributions to Norway's development and to peace and prosperity in the international community. She also mentioned his visit to Japan as a state guest in 2001.

  2. On the same day, Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu sent a message of condolence to His Excellency Mr. Espen Barth EIDE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway.

    In his message, Foreign Minister MOTEGI expressed his profound sorrow upon learning of the King's passing and offered his sincere condolences. Foreign Minister MOTEGI also paid tribute to the King's unparalleled contributions to the development of Japan-Norway relations and to peace and prosperity in the international community.
