On September 24, commencing at 8:30 a.m. (local time; 9:30 p.m., September 24, JST), for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Alexander STUBB, President of the Republic of Finland, while visiting New York, the United States, to attend the United Nations General Assembly. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that he was delighted to have successfully built the strong bilateral relations between Japan and Finland and he expressed his expectation for further development of the bilateral relations. In response, President Stubb expressed his desire to continue deepening cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
  2. Prime Minister ISHIBA also mentioned that he looks forward to advancing cooperation with Finland across a broad range of areas, including security.
  3. The two leaders also confirmed their intention to cooperate closely on urgent international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
