Congratulatory Letter from Foreign Minister Iwaya to High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kallas

On December 1st, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent a congratulatory letter to H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission.

In this letter, Foreign Minister Iwaya extended his congratulations on High Representative Kallas’s appointment as the High Representative. He also stated that Japan and the EU are strategic partners who uphold the free and open international order based on the rule of law, and are addressing jointly various challenges faced by the international community, and that the cooperative relations between Japan and the EU have become closer than ever before as the Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) will enter into force in January next year, building upon the steady implementation of the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Foreign Minister Iwaya also expressed that he would like to continue to further deepen cooperation with the EU on a wide range of areas, including security.
