On 18 September commencing at 4:00 p.m., for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs held a meeting with Mr. Michael McGrath, Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, European Commission, during his visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, State Minister Fujii welcomed Commissioner McGrath’s first visit to Japan and stated that Japan and the EU are indispensable to each other and partners sharing strong aspirations, and that Japan-EU cooperation is more important than ever.
  2. State Minister Fujii expressed that Japan would like to work closely with the EU to uphold a free and open international order based on the rule of law. Building upon the success of the Japan-EU Summit held in July, both sides affirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in various fields.
  3. Furthermore, they exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, as well as disinformation, and foreign information manipulation and interference.
