Ninth Round of Negotiations on Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA)

- The ninth round of negotiations on Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) was held in Brussels from July 8 to 9.
- The meeting was attended by, on the Japanese side, Mr. Satoshi Suzuki, Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau and other representatives, and on the EU side, Dr. Gerhard Sabathil, Director for North East Asia and the Pacific, European External Action Service and other representatives.
- At the meeting, the two sides discussed the overall content and deepened their understanding of each other’s positions on some areas of co-operation.
- The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Tokyo in September.
