Japan-EU Relations

  1. The eighth round of negotiations on Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) was held in Tokyo on April 23.
  2. The meeting was attended by, on the Japanese side, Mr. Satoshi Suzuki, Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau and other representatives, and on the EU side, Dr. Gerhard Sabathil, Director for North East Asia and the Pacific, European External Action Service and other representatives.
  3. At the meeting, the two sides advanced discussion and further progress was made on some areas of co-operation. In addition, two sides discussed the overall content and deepened their understanding of each other’s positions.
  4. The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Brussels June onwards.
