Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ERI Arfiya by Mr. Javlon VAKHABOV, Deputy Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia

On July 8, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Javlon VAKHABOV, Deputy Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri stated that Uzbekistan is an important strategic partner for Japan in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law and that she looks forward to working closely with Mr. Vakhabov to further deepen bilateral relations, which have dramatically developed by President Mirziyoyev’s visit to Japan December last year.
- Mr. Vakhabov provided an overview of the current situation in Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan, and expressed his hope for strengthened cooperation with Japan, including through the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue (CA+JAD).
- The two sides also affirmed their intention to cooperate closely in the international arena and Ms. Eri explained the update of the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)”.
