Japan-Uzbekistan Relations

On August 27, commencing at 4:25 p.m. local time (8:25 p.m. on August 27, Japan time) for approximately 45 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Uzbekistan, made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Shavkat MIRZIYOYEV, President of Republic of Uzbekistan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, President Mirziyoyev welcomed Miniser IWAYA’s first visit to Uzbekistan and expressed his willingness to further strengthen relations with Japan as a reliable partner in various fields taking the opportunity of the Minister’s ongoing visit.
  2. In response, Minister IWAYA expressed his gratitude for Uzbekistan's warm hospitality and his willingness to further develop relations with Uzbekistan, an important strategic partner for Japan in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, including through the first Japan-Uzbekistan Foreign Ministers’Strategic Dialogue which was held earlier on the same day (August 27).
  3. Minister IWAYA welcomed further development of the relations between the two countries through active visits of dignitaries,in such areas as politics, economic, and human exchanges,and expressed his expectation for the deepening of cooperation towards the sustainable development including through the two Grant Projects, the documents of which were signed on the same day (August 27). In response, President Miriziyoyev praised the cooperation with Japan thus far and expressed his expectation for further development of relations in the future.
  4. The two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues such as the situation in Russia and Ukraine and the situation in East Asia particularly the reaction against North Korea including nuclear and missile issues and abductions of Japanese citizens, and concurred to continue close cooperation in the international arena, including the United Nations.
