Japan-Turkmenistan Relations
Courtesy call on President BERDIMUHAMEDOV of Turkmenistan by Foreign Minister MOTEGI

On August 30, commencing at 10:00 a.m. (2:00 p.m. on August 30, Japan time) for approximately 45 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Turkmenistan, made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Serdar BERDIMUHAMEDOV, President of Turkmenistan.
- At the outset, President Berdimuhamedov welcomed Minister MOTEGI’s visit to Turkmenistan and expressed his willingness to further strengthen relations with Japan taking the opportunity of the Minister’s ongoing visit. In response, Minister MOTEGI stated that last year has witnessed significant growth of bilateral relations through President Berdimuhamedov’s two visits to Japan on the occasion of the National Day Event of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan and on the occasion of the Summit of "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue (CA+JAD), and expressed his intention to steadily follow up on the outcomes of the President's visits.
- Minister MOTEGI explained the updated “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)” concept, and expressed his willingness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation in fields not only in the resource and energy fields but also in the fields of resource recycling and AI, taking advantage of Japanese technology. In response, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his welcome.
- Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on the regional and international situation and concurred on continuing cooperation between the two countries.
