On September 28, commencing at 3:05 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly BERDIMUHAMEDOV, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, who is visiting Japan to attend the state funeral for former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo. The summary of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude to Chairman Berdimuhamedov for attending the state funeral for former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo, while noting that Chairman Berdimuhamedov had delivered a heartwarming address at a luncheon held in Turkmenistan in honor of former Prime Minister Abe. In response, Chairman Berdimuhamedov expressed his sincere condolences, stating that the passing of former Prime Minister Abe was a great tragedy for the people of Turkmenistan as well.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida welcomed the construction of large-scale natural gas processing plants realized with the participation of Japanese companies. Prime Minister Kishida stated that a further strengthened relationship would require a business climate that would allow Japanese companies to operate without issues, and requested that Chairman Berdimuhamedov provide assistance in this regard. Chairman Berdimuhamedov expressed his appreciation for the significant contribution made to the development of Turkmenistan by such plants, which were completed after the visit of former Prime Minister Abe to Turkmenistan, and expressed his hope for the continuation of the cooperative relationship.
  3. Prime Minister Kishida stated that it is important for the international community to take united response to end the aggression by Russia against Ukraine as soon as possible. He also expressed strong opposition to any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo with force in the background.
  4. They welcomed the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Association between the two countries and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations in this year that marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
