On October 6, from 10:10 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. IKUINA Akiko received a courtesy call by the participants from Central Asian and the Caucasus countries who are visiting Japan under the "Young Diplomats Invitation Program for NIS (Central Asia and the Caucasus) countries" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina welcomed the participants’ visit to Japan and emphasized the importance of the continuation of the "Young Diplomats Invitation Program for NIS countries" over more than 30 years for the young government officials of the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus who are expected to serve as a “bridge” to Japan. Furthermore, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina expressed her expectations that, through this invitation program with the theme of “Disaster Risk Reduction & AI” the participants would deepen their understanding of Japan’s initiatives in those fields and continue to strengthen cooperation with Japan.
  2. The participants stated that, through the invitation program, they hoped to absorb Japan’s expertise in the fields of disaster risk reduction and AI and to apply it to the development of their own countries and regions, and that they would like to contribute to the development of relations with Japan.

(Reference) Young Diplomats and Officials Invitation Program for NIS (Central Asia and the Caucasus) countries

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, young diplomats and government officials from the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) are invited to Japan to deepen mutual understanding through exchanges of views with government and business representatives and experts, visits to economic and cultural facilities, and visits to regional areas.
