Japan-Turkmenistan Relations

On September 10, commencing at around 4:10 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. ABE Shinzo, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly BERDIMUHAMEDOV, President of Turkmenistan. The overview of the talk is as follows.

1. At the outset, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his sincere regrets regarding Prime Minister Abe’s resignation, and thanked him for making the Japan-Turkmenistan relationship stronger than ever under his leadership. In response, Prime Minister Abe explained his decision to step down as Prime Minister and thanked President Berdimuhamedov for his cooperation until now, while also mentioning his memories of visiting Turkmenistan in 2015.

2. Prime Minister Abe remarked that he and President Berdimuhamedov, who is very passionate about expanding relations with Japan, had accomplished a number of major projects, including the construction of a natural gas processing plant. The two leaders shared their hopes for further deepening the amicable relations between the two countries.
