Japan-Ukraine Summit Telephone Talk

On April 14th, commencing at 17:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. SUGA Yoshihide, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Volodymyr ZELENSKYY, President of Ukraine. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- Prime Minister Suga stated that Ukraine is an important partner sharing basic values such as freedom, democracy and the rule of law, and Japan is cooperating with the G7 to consistently support Ukraine's reform efforts. President Zelenskyy expressed his appreciation for Japan's support for Ukraine, and the two leaders welcomed the development of bilateral relations.
- President Zelenskyy explained the recent situation in eastern Ukraine, and Prime Minister Suga stated that Japan consistently supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and is concerned about the deterioration of the situation in eastern Ukraine.
- In addition, Prime Minister Suga expressed serious concerns about unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East and South China Sea, also asked for the understanding and cooperation toward the strong condemnation of North Korea's recent launch of ballistic missiles and the early resolution of the abduction issue, and received President Zelenskyy’s support for Japan's position.
