Japan-Ukraine Summit Telephone Talk

On December 9, commencing at 6:25 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with H. E. Mr. Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, upon the request of the Ukrainian side. The overview is as follows.
1. The two leaders exchanged views mainly about Japan-Ukraine relations and the situation in Ukraine.
2. Prime Minister Abe expressed the view that the implementation of the Minsk Agreements is the only path to improving the situation in Ukraine, and it is important for all the parties concerned to fully implement the Minsk Agreements. In response, President Poroshenko expressed gratitude for Japan’s support thus far, and showed strong determination to fully implement the Minsk Agreements.
3. Additionally, Prime Minister Abe explained that Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, is scheduled to visit Japan on December 15 and 16, and stated that during the visit Prime Minister Abe intends to hold an in-depth discussion with President Putin in order to pursue progress with the peace treaty issues.
