Meeting between Foreign Minister Kamikawa and H.E. Ms. Tatjana Macura, Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women of the Republic of Serbia

On July 18, commencing at 11:00 a.m. local time (6:00 p.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Tatjana Macura, Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women of the Republic of Serbia during her visit to the Republic of Serbia. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa pointed out the progress in women's political participation in Serbia. In response, Minister Macura explained the current situation about gender equality and women's empowerment in Serbia and the efforts by the Government of Serbia.
- Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan is promoting the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) as one of Japan's major foreign policies, and pointed out the importance of gender equality and the WPS perspective for peace and stability in the Western Balkan region, who have been striving for regional reconciliation and development since the end of the conflict. Minister Macura mentioned WPS initiatives in Serbia and the importance of women's perspectives in refugee assistance. The both sides shared the view of the importance of incorporating women's perspectives into various policies.
