On July 19, commencing at 5:50 p.m. local time (0:50 a.m. on July 20 JST) for approximately 35 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Mrs. Atifete JAHJAGA, the former President of the Republic of Kosovo during her visit to the country. The overview is as follows.

  1. The Former President JAHJAGA explained that, as President, she had worked on issues such as women, youth and reconciliation, and that even after leaving office, through JAHJAGA Foundation, which she established, she has supported women and children. She also expressed gratitude for Japan's support for the project installing mammograms in a clinic in the eastern region of Kosovo through Japan’s grant assistance for grassroots human security projects.
  2. Minister Kamikawa, while paying tribute to the former President for her longstanding commitment to women’s empowerment, explained that Japan would like to further promote WPS on the occasion of the UN Future Summit in September this year as well as the 25th anniversary of the WPS resolution in 2025 as Japan promotes WPS as one of its major foreign policies. In response, the former President JAHJAGA expressed her respect to Minister Kamimawa for her leadership in the WPS field and both parties agreed to work together on initiatives through the WPS.
