Japan-Hungary Relations

The 13rd Intergovernmental Consultation on Cooperation in the field of Science and Technology took place on February 21st in Budapest, Hungary.

  1. The Intergovernmental Consultation was co-chaired by H.E. Ms. KAJI Misako, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, and Dr. István SZABÓ, Vice President for Science and International Affairs, National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDIO). Attendees were representatives from both countries' relevant ministries and agencies.
  2. In the counsultation, both sides discussed the progress of science, technology, and innovation policies in both countries, as well as the current status and future direction of science and technology cooperation activities between the two countries. They also discussed potential areas for future cooperation, such as laser research and the medicine, and exchanged views on collaboration between research institutions and other organizations in both countries. The attendees visited the Laboratories of the Institute of Experimental Medicine in Budapest on the 21st and the ELI-ALPS laser facility in Szeged on the 22nd.
  3. Both sides confirmed to hold their next consultation meeting in Japan and the specific date of the meeting will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.

The two countries signed and exchanged notes concerning on Cooperation in the field of Science and Technology in May 1979. At the Japan-Hungary Summit Meeting in December 2019, it was aggred that next round of consultations would held in Budapet. This is the 13th round of consultations.
