On July 10, commencing at 4:35 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held Japan-Germany foreign ministers’ telephone talks with H.E. Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany. The overview of the talks is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Kishida expressed appreciation to Germany for expressly welcoming and supporting Japan’s basic policies regarding the security legislation.

2. Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Minister Kishida expressed respect for the leadership demonstrated by Germany for the peaceful settlement of the Ukraine issue. Minister Kishida noted that Japan as a G7 member will play a proactive role towards the resolution of the Ukraine issue, and explained Japan’s measures to support Ukraine.

3. The two ministers shared the view that dialogue with separatists was needed for the peaceful settlement of the dispute, and agreed that the two countries would continue to coordinate closely towards the resolution of the Ukraine issue.
