On March 30 and 31, the second co-creation workshop was held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Japan in Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand, supported by the governments of Japan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to demonstrate and discuss the OECD’s "AI Policy Toolkit," which is being developed for emerging and developing countries to support the development of Artificial Intelligence(AI) policies based on the OECD AI Principles.
The workshop was attended by officials from the OECD’s Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) and other relevant divisions, government officials, AI policymakers and experts from Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, officials from the government of the United Kingdom, Mr. WATANABE Shige, Deputy Assistant Minister, Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. TERAMURA Yukio, Assistant Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Global Policy Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. Overview
    1. Following the first workshop held in August last year, this second workshop was held, given that the development of the toolkit is nearing completion.
    2. The workshop provided opportunities for hands-on experience of the "AI Policy Toolkit," exchanging views on its future utilization, and dialogues on AI safety. Experts from Southeast Asian countries also presented actual application of AI in the fields of education and healthcare.
    3. U.S. companies in the AI field, such as Amazon Web Services(AWS) and Microsoft, which participate in the Reporting Framework of the Hiroshima AI Process, joined the workshop and shared experiences from the perspective of the private sector.
  2. Remarks by Deputy Assistant Minister WATANABE
Deputy Assistant Minister WATANABE referred to the importance of the OECD’s outreach to Southeast Asia and stated that Japan will continue to promote the co-creation of a “safe, secure, and trustworthy AI” ecosystem in the region, in cooperation with the OECD, through frameworks such as the “Dialogue Framework between the OECD and Southeast Asian Countries on AI,” established by the OECD and Japan.

(Reference) AI Policy Toolkit

A tool being developed by the OECD for emerging and developing countries to support the formulation of AI policies based on the OECD AI Principles. It consists of three components: a self-assessment tool; an AI research assistant that searches AI-related policies around the world; and fact sheets based on the OECD’s analysis on AI.
