On June 16, commencing at 3:00 p.m. (local time. 6:00 a.m. on June 17, Japan time.) for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, attended the G7 Kananaskis Summit Session 3 “Making Communities Safe”. The overview of the session is as follows.

With regard to the fildwire, Prime Minister Ishiba stated that Japan has been experiencing more frequent wildfires on a large scale due to dry conditions and strong winds. On top of that, he explained that the Government is considering strengthening its measures including enhancing firefighting systems and equipment, such as the use of fixed-wing aircraft to enhance firefighting capabilities. He also mentioned the efforts on the use of meteorological satellites in view of detecting and extinguishing wildfires. Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his intention to work closely with other countries.

In addition, Prime Minister commended Canada's leadership on addressing Transnational Repression and stressed the importance of a coordinated response by each countries.

Moreover, Prime Minister Ishiba emphasized the need to address the root causes of migration, including poverty eradication, and stressed that Japan will continue to cooperate to eliminate international crime organizations involved in migrant smuggling.
