Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation

July 7, 2026

From 8 to 12 June 2026, the Plenary Meeting of the Australia Group (AG) was held in Paris, France.

At the Plenary Meeting, Japan made a presentation on its outreach activities, introducing initiatives such as the Asia Senior-level Talks on Non-Proliferation (ASTOP) and outreach efforts in the Philippines. This served as an opportunity to provide input to participating countries on the necessity of outreach to Asia and the Philippines' export control efforts.

The Chair's Statement Open a New Window issued following the Plenary Meeting reaffirmed cooperation toward preventing the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons (CBW), and reported on discussions regarding the proliferation risks of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, as well as updates to the AG Common Control Lists. The statement also welcomed the declarations by non-participating countries Albania and Montenegro of their unilateral adherence to the AG.
