Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister MOTEGI by Professor OKI, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan
On April 8, commencing at 4:45 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu received a courtesy call from Dr. OKI Taikan, newly appointed as the Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs on April 1. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI mentioned that science and technology are becoming increasingly important in the international community, and he requested advice on how to effectively promote science and technology diplomacy.
- In response, Advisor OKI replied that he would like to actively engage in activities based on his own experience.

Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs was established in 2015 and has been engaged in providing knowledge in the field of science and technology, strengthening networks with government science and technology advisors from various countries, and external communication.

Dr. OKI Taikan has engaged as professor at the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo; Senior Vice-Rector and Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations University; Special Advisor to the President of the University of Tokyo. He is professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo since 2020. His specialty is hydrology, and he has received awards such as the Stockholm Water Prize (2024).
