On May 19, Prof. Matsumoto, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Dr. Kotani, Science and Technology Co-Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, exchanged views with Prof. Pavel Kabat, Secretary-General of the International Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO), who visited Japan.

Secretary-General KABAT said that the HFSPO, which was launched by the initiative of the then Prime Minister Nakasone at the 1987 G7 Summit, has continued its work for more than 30 years and has been commended by scientists around the world, and he also said that Japan's continued support to date has been highly appreciated by the global scientific community and HFSP member countries.

Moreover, Secretary-General KABAT emphasized that more Japanese scientists received the HFSP fellowships than any other country so far, and stated that the HFSP will continue to work together with Japan in promoting Science and Technology Diplomacy to improve the presence of the HFSP.

Prof. Matsumoto and Dr. Kotani explained to Secretary-General KABAT the current status of overseas expansion and brain circulation of Japanese doctoral students and young researchers, and both sides exchanged views on how to further increase the number of Japanese laureates.
