Period of stay 6 months.
(However, maximum 1 year period will be granted if eligible individuals apply for the extension of period of stay to the Regional Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Justice, before the 6 month period of permitted stay is to expire.)
Eligibility for Applicant

 Nationals and Citizens of visa waiver countries or regions and who meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Individual at the age of 18 years or older and has savings equivalent to more than 30 million Japanese yen owned by you and your spouse
  2. Accompanying spouse of the individual who is mentioned in 1 above (he or she must have the same place of residence and travel together in Japan.)

(Note) Dependent children cannot be allowed to accompany.
(Note) If your spouse wishes not to accompany you but stay separately under this scheme, you and your spouse must own savings equivalent to more than 60 million Japanese yen. The accompanying spouse (referred to in 2 above) is not required to enter Japan with the individual (referred to in 1 above), but he or she cannot enter Japan before the individual. For more details on the requirements of “accompanying spouse,” please contact the Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Justice.

Necessary documents
  1. Individual at the age of 18 years or older and has savings equivalent to more than 30 million Japanese yen.
    • (1) Passport
    • (2) Visa Application Form (with a photo)
    • (3) Certificate of Eligibility (Note) – the original or one copy (If you have an electronic Certificate of Eligibility, please present it at the visa application counter or submit a printed copy)
      (if you submit the Certificate of Eligibility, you do not need to submit (4) to (6) below)
    • (4) Schedule of Stay
    • (5) Documents such as a bankbook to prove that the applicant’s savings is more than 30 million Japanese yen along with the records indicating the current balance as well as deposits and withdrawals for the past 6 months.
    • (6) Documents to prove that the applicant holds a private medical travel insurance which covers death, injury, illness during his/her stay
    • (7) (if you apply from outside of his/her own country) documents to prove that the applicant legally resides or works in the country where the application is made
  2. Accompanying Spouse of the individuals who are mentioned 1 above
    • (1) Passport
    • (2) Visa Application Form (with a photo)
    • (3) Certificate of Eligibility (Note) – the original or one copy (If you have an electronic Certificate of Eligibility, please present it at the visa application counter or submit a printed copy)
    • (4) Marriage Certificate
    • (5) Schedule of Stay
    • (6) Documents to prove the applicant has Medical travel insurance which covers death, injury, illness during the stay
    • (7) if applying from outside of his/her own country) documents to prove that the applicant legally resides or works in the country where the application is made
    • (8) if applying separately from the applicant 1 above mentioned) a copy of the visa of the spouse under the same category (specified  visa (long stay))

(Note) What is a Certificate of Eligibility?
 A Certificate of Eligibility, which is issued by a regional immigration authority under the jurisdiction of the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, certifies that the foreign national conforms to the conditions for landing in Japan (which means the activity stated in the application is not false and it is one of the activities (except Temporary Visitor) stipulated in the Immigration Control Act).  By presenting COE, the visa application at the Embassy or Consulate-General and the landing examination at the passport control will be processed smoothly. However, please note that a COE does not guarantee the issuance of a visa.
