- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the Workshop on the Protection of Space Environment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on December 12th, 2012, on the occasion of the 19th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-19) (*).
- This workshop aims to facilitate common understanding on challenges in securing the sustainable use of outer space, in particular, through sharing the importance of protection of space environment as well as promoting measures to minimize the generation of space debris by space activities among the Asian-Pacific and other countries, which have recently shown a high level of interests in space activities. This will contribute to ensuring the safe, secure, stable and sustainable space environment for space activities and the use of the outer space.
- Distinguished speakers in the workshop include the following: Dr. Yasushi Horikawa, Chairman of the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS) and the Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Mazlan Othman, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA); Dr. Mustafa Din Subari, Director General of Malaysian National Space Agency (ANGKASA); and Dr. Peter Martinez, Chairman of the Working Group on the Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities of the UNCOPUOS.
