- From June 20 to 22, Ms. Valerie Amos, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, will visit Japan for the purpose of further strengthening cooperative relations between Japan and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the area of humanitarian assistance.
- During her visit, Under-Secretary-General Amos will hold talks with senior government officials, visit affected areas of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and attend at the event of the "World Refugee Day" (Tokyo Tower Lighting Ceremony), etc.
- Japan has given active support for the world's humanitarian issues. It is expected that the visit to Japan this time by Under-Secretary-General Amos will contribute to the enhancement of cooperative relations between Japan and OCHA.
