Japanese
- The 8th Public Forum on United Nations (UN) Reform will be held on March 30 (Tue) at the JICA Global Plaza in Tokyo. The Forum will be co-hosted by the NGO Liaison Group on UN Reform and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- As momentum for UN reform is growing ever greater, at this Public Forum a wide group of concerned parties including NGOs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will exchange views regarding how Japan should respond at the UN regarding themes such as development, peace building, disarmament, and human rights. The first Forum was held in August 2005, and a total of seven have been held up until now.
- This Public Forum aims to deepen discussion regarding what initiatives Japan should take towards further UN reform, in light of the Fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP15) held at the end of 2009, the Tenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) to be held this year in Japan, and growing worldwide momentum for disarmament inspired by President Barack Obama’s speech “A World Without Nuclear Weapons.”
