- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Graduate Program on Human Security at the University of Tokyo will hold a symposium on human security entitled “Realizing Human Security in Asia” from 10:30 am to 5:35 pm on February 23, 2010.
- Mr. Dato’ Misran Karmain, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General, Japanese officials working for UN agencies to realize human security in Asia and experts engaged in ASEAN and human security issues in various capacities such as government, journalism and academia will attend this symposium. At this symposium, projects of the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security will be introduced as an example of implementing the concept of human security in Asia. There will also be a broad discussion on the current status, challenges toward further enhancing human security and on future collaboration with ASEAN.
- With the aim of promoting human security in the international community, the Government of Japan places the concept as a pillar of its foreign policy. The concept has certainly become widespread in the international community and a report of the UN Secretary General on human security is expected to be published this spring. This symposium aims to strengthen collaboration with ASEAN toward realizing human security and to further enhance human security in Asia.
