APEC Japan 2010 Senior Officials’ Meeting I (SOM I)

The APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Senior Officials’ Meeting I (SOM I ) will be held on February 22 (Mon) and 23 (Tue) in Hiroshima city. Senior officials from member economies will attend the meeting, which will be chaired by Mr. Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador for International Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Hidehiko Nishiyama, Director-General for Trade Policy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Deputy Director-General, Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Makoto Shiota, Deputy Director-General for International Regional Policy, Trade Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will also attend as senior officials representing Japan.
This meeting is the first official meeting to be hosted by Japan as the chair of APEC 2010, and it will lay the foundation for future meetings including ministerial meetings in various fields and the Economic Leaders’ Meeting, to be held in Yokohama in November.
At the meeting, senior officials will discuss the following agendas: the assessment of the Bogor goals, which aim to realize free and open trade and investment; the acceleration of regional economic integration; APEC growth strategy; strengthening human security: economic and technical cooperation in the APEC region
Following this meeting, related working-level meetings will be held in Hiroshima city through March 7 (Sun).
