Entry into force of the Agreement between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for an Economic Partnership and the first meeting of the Joint Committee

- The Agreement between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for
an Economic Partnership (hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement")
was signed on 25 December 2008 in Tokyo and, after the completion of the
respective necessary legal procedures, will enter into force on October
1, 2009.
- The first meeting of the Joint Committee established under the Agreement
will be held on October 1, 2009. The participants in the meeting will
be; on the Japanese side, Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mr. Masayuki Naoshima, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Naoki
Minezaki, Senior Vice Minister of Finance, and Mr. Masahiko Yamada, Senior
Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; on the Viet Nam side,
Mr. Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Industry and Trade; and other officials from
relevant departments of both governments.
- At the Joint Committee, decisions necessary for the implementation of
the Agreement will be made, including on the Implementing Regulations.
- It is expected that the entry into force of the Agreement will further vitalize the economies of the two countries and tighten their bilateral relations through strengthened economic partnership.
