Launch of UN Week 2009

- From October 16 (Friday) to 24 (Saturday) of this year, United Nations
Communications Group-Japan, United Nations Association of Japan, Japan Model
United Nations Society, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will
collectively present "UN Week 2009". The Week will provide a common
platform for a series of events and activities to be held in cooperation
with UN-related organisations around the nation, focusing on the UN, our
planet and our future. The Week will culminate with UN Day on October 24,
which is celebrated annually in commemoration of the UN's founding.
- Major events planned for the Week include Stand Up Take Action; International
Saitama Symposium, "Meeting Millennium Development Goals"; High
School Student Speech Contest on International Understanding and Cooperation(Final
Selection); and Social Venture Competition "UN and Business: Let's
Change the World Together". In addition, a UN feature is planned in
the November edition of the monthly "Gaiko Forum" magazine, which
will go on sale on October 8.
- United Nations Information Centre Tokyo has created the Week's special logo and poster so that a number of UN- related events would be planned and held throughout the country. Please refer to the website (http://unic.or.jp/un_week/) for details. A weekly "Together with the UN" E-bulletin will provide the latest information on UN Week.
