Visit to Japan by Ms. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Special Rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Trafficking in Persons

- Ms. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, Special Rapporteur of the United Nations Human
Rights Council on trafficking in persons, will be visiting Japan from July
12 (Sun) to July 18 (Sat) in order to gather information pertaining to Japan's
action to combat trafficking in persons in Japan.
- During her stay in Japan, Special Rapporteur Ezeilo will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs as well as exchange views with such parties as ministry officials responsible for measures against trafficking in persons, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and international organizations. She also plans to visit victim shelters, among other facilities.

Special Rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Trafficking in Persons is a post established by the U.N. Commission on Human Rights in April 2004. The person in charge of this issue is expected to visit various countries and review the situation of issues of trafficking in persons within those countries, put together the results of his/her visits, and then report them to the Human Rights Council. The current mandate holder of this post, Ms. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, was given a three year long term based on the resolution to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children adopted by the 8th session of Human Rights Council in June, 2008.
