Third Seminar on National Reconciliation of Iraq (Knowledge and Experience Sharing between Japan and Iraq)
March 13, 2009
Japanese
- The Government of Japan will hold the 3rd Seminar on National Reconciliation
of Iraq (Knowledge and Experience Sharing between Japan and Iraq) from March
16 (Mon) to March 24 (Tue), inviting a 6-member Iraqi delegation comprising
political party leaders of both Shiite and Sunni affiliations, parliament
members, and other influential persons.
- The Seminar will be held based on the consideration that the promotion
of national reconciliation among different ethnic/sectarian groups is essential
for the solid stabilization of Iraq, where the current security situation
shows signs of improvement. It is expected that Japan’s efforts in
holding such a Seminar will contribute to that end.
- During their stay, the Iraqi delegation will have meetings with Japanese
government officials and parliament members. In addition, they will
receive lectures on Japan’s post-war reconstruction and democratization
and will also visit Hiroshima and Kobe to share Japan’s experiences of
post-war democratization, peace-building and reconstruction.
- This seminar is conducted as a program carried out by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), an independent administrative institution.
