3S Asian Regional Seminar on Infrastructure Development for the Introduction of Nuclear Power Generation

- From August 18 (Mon.) to 22 (Fri.), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will
hold the “Regional Seminar on Nuclear Security, Safety and Safeguards”
(3S Asian Regional Seminar on Infrastructure Development for the Introduction
of Nuclear Power Generation) under the joint auspices with the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
- Japan and the IAEA will invite officials from nine Asian countries (Viet
Nam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand,
Laos, and Nepal) which may possibly introduce nuclear power generation in
the future will be invited to this seminar. Japan will send nuclear-energy
experts to the seminar in order to share understanding on the importance
of ensuring 3S in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and to introduce Japan’s
experiences.
- The initiative called “International Initiative on 3S-Based Nuclear Energy Infrastructure” was launched at the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit held in July. Following this initiative, Japan has decided to co-host this seminar to deepen the Asian countries’ understanding on the importance of ensuring 3S in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
